AMD Ryzen 8000G Officially Announced at CES 2024

AMD officially announced their newest line of APU processors for desktops, namely the Ryzen 8000G series. AMD's latest APU series is also available for the AM5 socket platform, using the Zen4 and Zen4c architecture. Interestingly, this AMD Desktop APU processor is also equipped with an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU).

The Ryzen 8000G series comes in four models, including Ryzen 3 8300G, Ryzen 5 8500G, Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G. Ryzen 3 8300G and Ryzen 5 8500G and offers a more affordable option with a combination of 6 cores (2 Zen 4, 4 Zen 4c) and Radeon 740M graphics. Even without an NPU, CPU and iGPU performance still increases significantly compared to the previous Ryzen 5000G series.

Meanwhile, for the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G, both are equipped with 8 Zen 4 CPU cores, 16 threads, and Radeon 780M/760M iGPU graphics which can beat AAA 1080p games at medium settings. AMD compared its highest model, the Ryzen 7 8700G, with the RTX 1650 at Full HD resolution, and managed to surpass the discrete graphics card. For the NPU, it uses XDNA 1.6 GHz, this is up to 60% faster than the mobile Ryzen 7040 series. This makes it ready to accelerate AI performance for video editing, streaming, and machine learning development.

The Ryzen 8000G series supports DDR5-5600 and PCIe 5.0 memory, a big jump from DDR4-3200 and PCIe 3.0 in the previous series. Higher bandwidth ensures integrated graphics and fast data transfer. All Ryzen 8000G models are equipped with built-in coolers, namely the Wraith Spire for the 8700G and the Wraith Stealth for the 8600G and 8500G. These four models will go on sale on January 31
