Digital Population Identity (IKD) is a digital-based identity which is planned to replace the electronic Population Identity Card (e-KTP or KTP-el).
An explanation regarding IKD is contained in Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 72 of 2022 Article 13 paragraph 2. The regulation states that IKD is electronic information used to represent Population Documents and return data in digital applications via devices that display Personal Data as the identity of the person concerned. In other words, in the future people will not need to bother carrying KTPs because they will already have their residence identity on their cellphones.
