“The iPhone 16 series brought in by passengers is legal, but becomes illegal if it is bought and sold domestically. This is because it is no longer in accordance with the intended purpose when processing permits for the cellphone to enter Indonesia, namely for personal use. "Therefore, we are considering deactivating the IMEI of the iPhone 16 series which enters passengers' luggage and if it is proven that they are being sold in Indonesia," explained the spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry.
This happened because Apple had not yet met the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) requirements. He said that to obtain a TKDN certificate, there were three schemes that could be fulfilled by electronics manufacturers. Manufacturers can choose one of them.
First, the manufacturing scheme, namely companies must produce goods domestically or build factories.
The second way, through the application scheme. He explained that if they choose this scheme, producers can create digital applications. Then, the Ministry of Industry will calculate the TKDN score through the application.
The final scheme is innovation or research. He said Apple chose this scheme to obtain a TKDN certificate. In the proposal submitted by Apple management, he said, they promised to build Apple Academy in a number of regions in Indonesia.
Currently, Apple's TKDN realization has not yet reached 40 percent, so the Ministry of Industry cannot yet issue import permits for the newest Apple products.
