Samsung has just announced the presence of the industry's first Graphics Double Data Rate 7 (GDDR7) DRAM developed by the company. The presence of this next generation DRAM will encourage increased graphics performance in the future.
Previously, the development of GDDR6 DRAM developed by Samsung in 2022 had a per pin speed of up to 24Gbps. Now, GDDR7 from Samsung is claimed to have a per pin speed of up to 32Gbps.
Samsung's GDDR7 achieves a bandwidth of 1.5 terabytes per second (TBps), which is a 1.4-fold increase from 1.1 TBps in GDDR6. This improvement in GDDR7 also has 20% better power efficiency compared to the existing GDDR6.
To prevent heat problems, GDDR7 is designed in such a way that this improvement dramatically reduces heat resistance by up to 70% compared to GDDR6, so that performance can remain stable even in high operational conditions.
