Android users will soon lose one of WhatsApp's 'privileges' because data backups will take up space on Google Drive starting in 2024. Previously, WhatsApp backups using Google Drive did not take up cloud storage capacity. Google and WhatsApp both announced that starting December for WhatsApp beta users, chat history as well as images and videos will again take up Google Drive storage capacity.
Thus, if users do not want to use Google Drive as a data backup medium, then they can choose another option. WhatsApp offers the WhatsApp Chat Transfer option. Quoted from The Verge, WhatsApp Chat Transfer can be used by Android users when migrating WhatsApp chats to a new cellphone. This feature works wirelessly and requires both phones to have WiFi turned on. For the record, both phones do not need to have an internet connection because this feature is a direct transfer between devices.
